Movie night is BIG in our house and of the many flicks we’ve watched Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son was recently added to the list. I was laughing two minutes in and it kept my attention straight through. Martin Lawrence is the master of disguises, three movies in and Big Mommas sassy charm is still a pleasure to watch. Brandon T. Jackson, who plays the stepson, adds his own humorous twist to the mix.

I won’t give it all away, but here is a quick snapshot of the story. FBI agent Malcolm Turner and his stepson Trent go undercover at an all-girls performing arts school after Trent witnesses a murder. True the saying “Like Father, like son” – Malcolm goes undercover as Big Momma and Trent is disguised as her grand-niece Charmaine.

The director did a great job of putting together a comedic cast of familiar faces like Ken Jeong aka Chang from the office and Faizon Love, who has been in more comedic flicks than I can count. Overall there was alittle bit of everything for everybody; some action, some romance, a few twists and alot of laughs.

If you are looking for something fun to watch with the family, you won’t be disappointed. Plus I personally like the positive father – son feel to it. It’s a nice addition to any family movies collection and/or as a gift for the tweens in your circle. My boys and I enjoyed this flick and we’ll definitely watch it again.

Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son (Motherload Edition) Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD available on June 14th, 2011

I am an instant gratification girl. I don’t like having to drive to the video store to rent dvds and I’m not into waiting hours for videos to download online. What I am into is Netflix. I used to be a movielinx subscriber back in the day, but at some point their selection of movies started to suck and I felt like my subscription was a waste of money, so I canceled it. With Netflix I feel like the selection is endless. I can watch a lot of the most recent movies online, and what I can’t watch online I can get sent to my mailbox in about 2 days (pretty fast). Once I watch my flicks, I just drop them back in the mail and wait for the next one to arrive.

Netflix nights are big in my house. After having my son, going to the movies just wasn’t an option anymore. Date night with the hubby turned into ONLY watching kid friendly flicks that Chris wouldn’t cry through or SCREAM through. When a friend of mine put me onto netflix, I felt like I discovered a whole new world. Rather than buy a ton of DVDS, my Chris could watch all his favorite cartoons directly from my computer, which also easily hooks up to the TV for a better view AND now that we have a Wii it just got even easier to watch Netflix videos via the Television.

Two nights ago I finally got to watch Tyler Perry’s I can Do Bad By Myself with my hubby, while Chris was sleeping. Then when the hubby went to sleep I watched a few Black Independent films vi the Netflix app on my iphone. We just returned the Dvd – Death At a Funeral with Martin Lawrence (very funny) and tonight we are watching Chris Rocks’ Good Hair! When we are in the car, Chris can watch ‘The Princess and the Frog’, ‘Dora’, ‘Scooby Doo’ and all his favorite cartoons. I love it!

I can watch netflix movies on my laptop, the television, my iphone, and with my Wii. I can literally watch it wherever I am … sitting on my couch, on the road, and while visiting family during the holidays! Sigh … Netflix rocks! If you are not into Netflix yet, well then you are really missing out.

Watch unlimited movies instantly online And rent one Dvd at a time (as many as you want for the month) for $9.99. Visit Netflix.com … they sometimes have 30 Day Free Trials, I signed up as a regular subscriber as soon as my free trial was over.

Inspired by a true story, GANGSTER’S PARADISE: JERUSALEMA is an unflinching look into the crime, corruption and the transgressions of those looking to survive in the most crime—infested district of Johannesburg. Starting off with simple smash and grabs, and petty crime, Lucky Kunene quickly graduates to more aggressive heists such as armed robbery and carjacking. Soon, Lucky realizes he needs a bigger score to fulfill his goals of making it big, and escaping from the slums, to a dream house by the sea. Lucky hatches an elaborate and violent plan to make his fortune – hijacking building from landlords of Johannesburg tenements by winning the favor of the tenants and then holding their rent hostage from the landowners. His high—profile real estate acquisitions attract the attention of the local police force who have no qualms about using unprovoked brutality to bring him down. His trouble with the law, coupled with an escalating war between a local drug lord, creates a tense standoff: both sides are closing in, and Lucky must stay one step ahead, or his empire, and his life, will come crashing down.

After two years in jail, Homer Hobbs, returns to his bleak urban home during the depths of the Great Depression. Sadly he discovers that life on the outside can be crueler than the backbreaking injustice of a chain gang. With no job, no prospects and no hope – Homer finds a kinship with four strangers: Benny, the street hustler eager to begin life anew in the sunshine of Florida; the suicidal Clarence, a nobody who aches to be somebody; Gracie, the despairing owner of a boarding house who lives with a secret; and Lucy, who harbors a mysterious past that threatens the lives of those she has come to love. Life is grim. But on Sunday nights, in a dingy hall, the men of the neighborhood piece together the finest attire their meager lives can beg, borrow or steal to compete in an unusual fashion contest. The big winner will go home with the five dollar prize. The real prize – far less tangible, yet priceless – is the chance to feel like a king, if just for an evening. To men like these, the touch of a woman, the adulation of the crowd, the feel of a fine-looking suit are proof enough that a man might yet escape the debasement of the Depression.

Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying – and the feeling is mutual – but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre’s feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts “the karate kid” on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

In a country where 58% of African American 4th graders are functionally illiterate, The Lottery uncovers the failures of the traditional public school system and reveals that hundreds of thousands of parents attempt to flee the system every year. The Lottery follows four of these families from Harlem and the Bronx who have entered their children in a charter school lottery. Out of thousands of hopefuls, only a small minority will win the chance of a better future. Directed by Madeleine Sackler and shot by award-winning cinematographer Wolfgang Held,The Lottery uncovers a ferocious debate surrounding the education reform movement. Interviews with politicians and educators explain not only the crisis in public education, but also why it is fixable. A call to action to avert a catastrophe in the education of American children, The Lottery makes the case that any child can succeed.
